Top 100 Wines of 2011

2010 Kinero Alice Paso Robles Grenache Blanc ($22, 13.1%):
Denner winemaker Anthony Yount’s own Paso label is focused on Rhone-style whites, and this effort from Luna Matta and Blackseth vineyards on Paso’s west side shows how well Grenache Blanc is adapted to the area. Yount’s use of stainless-steel barrels provides depth to deep citrus and green-herb notes, with peach and white raspberry rounding out a brilliant effort that finds the right pitch between rich and edgy.

Owner and winemaker Anthony Yount (Denner Vineyards) continues to producer fantastic white wines under his Kinero label. In addition to these two outstanding offerings, he also releases a 100% Chardonnay bottling that should not be missed.

2011 Kinero Grenache Blanc Alice Blackseth Vineyard (USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles) $22 Always an outstanding white, the 2011 Kinero Grenache Blanc is no exception and delivers brilliantly fresh, crisp aromas of citrus and apple fruit, wild herbs, and a saline like minerality that emerges with air. Aged 70% in stainless and the remainder in concrete, it is medium bodied, beautifully balanced, and has juicy acidity that keeps you looking for another glass. Buy this by the case and drink bottles over the coming 2-3 years. (91 pts.)

2011 Kinero Roussanne Rustler James Berry Vineyard (USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles) $22 Much more rich and full, the 2011 Kinero Roussanne Rustler James Berry Vineyard (100% Roussanne, full malolactic fermentation, and aged for 6 months in half Hungarian oak and half in concrete) boast gorgeous aromas of ripe golden fruits, lemon rind, lilac, and marzipan on the nose. This flows to a medium+ bodied white that has excellent richness, integrated acidity, and a dry, classically styled finish. Enjoy this beauty over the coming 4-5 years. (92 pts.)

89 pts 2011 Kinero Alice
90 pts 2011 Kinero Roussanne
91 pts 2010 Kinero Chardonnay

These are three delicious whites from Kinero and proprietor Anthony Yount, one of the most promising young winemakers in Paso Robles. Yount also makes the wines at Denner, a pretty powerful one-two punch when combined with his own wines at Kinero. Readers will notice the fruit sources are all top-notch, and that makes a world of difference.
